Stanley Tucci’s the kind of guy who could keep you enraptured with a dramatic reading from a phone book.

Along with being a very fine actor indeed, with credits in Conclave, The Devil Wears Prada, The Hunger Games, Easy A, and many more besides, he’s got an indefinably lovely aura about him that makes for very good documentary hosting.

The suave sensation has put his name to several docs already, particularly where food and Italy are concerned. His documentary Searching for Italy saw him win back to back Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series, only for the series to get dropped by CNN after its second season.

Fans were understandably gutted to see the end of Searching for Italy, especially given its critical acclaim suggested it was here to stay.

In that sense, his latest documentary is something of a spiritual successor to that show: Tucci in Italy. It follows Tucci around Italy, as you might have guessed, as he delves in the cultural touchstones and delicacies of the Mediterranean nation’s various beautiful and storied regions.

It’s available to watch on Disney+ here in the UK, with the show coming from Disney-owned National Geographic.

Posting to Instagram, Nat Geo TV has just announced that Tucci in Italy will run for at least one more season, and fans are very pleased with the news.

“Some dishes are so good, you need a second helping,” said Nat Geo TV in the Instagram post.

“After a critically acclaimed and award-winning first season, @stanleytucci and National Geographic are teaming up again for a second season of #TucciInItaly.

“Join Stanley as he continues to uncover the lesser-known culinary rituals that define each region and discovers the remarkable history and traditions behind their incredible food with the aid of local chefs, historians, farmers, winemakers, and artisans.”

Posting to his own Instagram story, Tucci added: "Well, looks like we're doing it again. Season 2 of Tucci in Italy is officially on the way. Grazie mille to all of you who have watched season 1."

The news has been very well-received.

“Stanley Tucci is made for travel and good documentaries,” said one Instagram comment. “Can’t wait for the second season.”

“Yeah!” said another. “So great! Learning lots about Italy! Great food and great people!”

It seems Tucci’s performing something of a public service for America’s Italian communities too: “As an Italian who's family originated in Palermo, I so appreciate the knowledge that @stanleytucci is giving me about my Italian heritage. Love this show and will definitely watch the next.”

“Such good news!!” chimed yet another happy fan. “Loved season 1! Next one Stanley needs to go to Sicilia, Liguria, Piemonte, Sardegna… can’t wait to watch it!! Great job team!!”
