22 British restaurants have been awarded a place in the Michelin Guide, and one might be near you.

It’s not often that we hear about established eateries joining the ranks of the most prestigious culinary systems in the world.

The Michelin system has two kinds of honours.

One provides a stars-based system which shows excellent food standards to a select group of establishments.

The Michelin Guide is a separate honour to this, though, as it doesn’t award a ranking to businesses.

Instead, it features them in a guide which is a book that prints restaurants of note that were visited by anonymous Michelin inspectors.

According to Open Table, the guide gives ‘information beyond star ratings, including restaurant genres, contact details, pricing and sample dishes’.

As for the list of 22 British eateries, it includes favourites such as The Crown in Bray with its ‘no-nonsense, big-flavoured dishes’, The Warwick in Royal Leamington Spa that showed off its ‘exacting presentation and bold flavours’ and being ‘elegant and relaxed in equal measure’.

Other restaurants that had the inspector’s attention, included the LOMA by Graeme Cheevers at the Cameron House hotel in Loch Lomond, Beau in Belfast, and five London-based locations.

Kallos Cafe & Wine Bar in Salford’s glowing review included praise like: “With its all-day dining, caring service and sumptuous flavours of the Mediterranean, this is the kind of neighbourhood operation you could quickly find yourself visiting week after week. Part of the city’s Greengate development, its offering starts with brunch, before morphing from a café vibe into a wine bar and restaurant.”

Being added to the guide isn’t something to take lightly, as the inspector will single out only the best establishments that excel in its quality of ingredients, flavour and cooking techniques, value for money and its consistency of quality.

The guide will add new additions that an inspector has chosen on a monthly basis, whilst the stars are given yearly.

Here are the 22 UK restaurants added to the Michelin Guide last month:

  • Angeethi by Sagar Massey, Cardonald
  • Bar Cerdita, Norwich
  • Beau, Belfast
  • Cadet, London
  • Gina, Chingford
  • Island, London
  • Kallos Cafe & Wine Bar, Salford
  • LOMA by Graeme Cheevers, Balloch
  • Madhu’s Southall, London
  • Margaret’s, Cambridge
